How do I get colleges to notice me?

#applyingtocollege #college #admissions #college-applications

Thank you comment icon I won a few scholarships, and my personal essays got me accepted in some neat schools! Writing is a powerful tool to open opportunities. You can check out https://www.goingmerry.com/c/caitlinp-l0dy and it can help give you interesting prompts. They mostly look for personal growth, authenticity, and passion! Do not cram your life story in 500 words! instead pick a moment where you really felt like you learned a lesson or discovered something about. A great way is pick something you are passionate about ex. sports, clubs, extracurriculars! Find whatever you love and let your emotions tell your story! Caitlin

Jeff’s Answer

Get a job. Admissions committees love to see work experience on the applications. I worked fast food. Do volunteer work--humanitarian stuff. Do something unusual. I used to do Olympic Weightlifting. I set an Olympic record for my weight and age in middle school.

Nicole’s Answer

Hi Shelby C. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

I agree with many of the previous answers on the impact of volunteering. Not only is it a great habit to form :) but it does show how you make efforts to positively impact those around you...generally a good look on a college application.

I would also add, where possible, demonstrate your leaderships skills or roles in school clubs (or even clubs or activities outside of school). Demonstrating leadership skills like leading a team, winning a competition, these types of accomplishments are not only good foundations for building confidence but again, they demonstrate your ability to get positive things done in your community and for others.

Best of luck to you!
