in your own words, what does it mean to be career ready?
I personally think it means that you have met the requirements to be ready to do your career because you have to be physically and mentally ready in order to have success because you shouldn't rush it

Being career ready means knowing there is much to learn and being willing to be bad at something in order to get good at it. Being career ready means having the right mindset. Have the goal of being the least of your supervisors concerns and making it as easy as possible for them to support you.

Basic employability skills are essential. Show up on time, dress appropriately. know how to get along with others and be enthusiastic about learning new things and bringing a good attitude to a job. The ability to learn new things and making yourself available to assist others during down time on the job. Taking ownership of successes and failures and supporting team goals. Doing everything asked of you to the best of your ability and knowing when to ask for help for efforts that requires skills you have not acquired yet. Dont take anything personally that happens at work that is work related. Learn to separate work life and outside of work life and you will do well. Be discrete about things that might be controversial at work such as personal preferences of religion or politics.

Career readiness also means being proactive. Seek out opportunities that align with your skills and stretch you. You don’t need to check every box, but you should understand how your experiences connect to where you’re trying to go.
And just as important, use your resources. Build relationships, ask questions, and learn from others. Platforms like LinkedIn, along with your communities, mentors, friends, and family, can help you gain insight and open doors.
At the end of the day, being career ready isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about being intentional in how you learn, grow, and move forward.

To me, being career ready isn’t about having everything figured out or knowing exactly what job you want. It’s more about being prepared to step into opportunities when they come. It means being responsible, showing up on time, communicating well, working hard, and being open to learning new things.
You don’t have to know everything — especially in high school. What really matters is your attitude, your effort, and your willingness to grow. If you’re curious, dependable, and ready to improve then you’re already building career readiness.
