I want to go to vet school after I graduate, but I am worried about the cost? What vet schools are the most affordable out of state, and in state for NC?

Hi Olivia,

Thank you for raising question in CareerVillage.org, here are some recommendations.

1. Top in-state option for NC residents: North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Raleigh, NC). Tuition Advantage: For the 2025-2026 academic year, annual tuition + fees for NC residents is only $19,644, which is the only AVMA-accredited 4-year DVM program in NC. It's in-state tuition is far below the national average for public vet school ($35,608/year for residents), which making it the most cost-effective choice for NC students. Additional Benefit: the school offers special admission pathways (e.g., UNC-SVEA program) for rural NC students, along with generous scholarships, grants and internship opportunities to further reduce costs.

2. Top affordable out-of-state vet schools for NC residents: with 2025-2026 estimated tuition, here are 3 most budget-friendly AVMA-accredited DVM program in the U.S., the1st one is lowa State University, the annual tuition + fees is around $31,893/year, and the 2nd is University of Georgia, the annual tuition + fees is around $ 38,000/year, the 3rd is Texas A&M University, the annual tuition + fees is around $40,000/year

You can make a decision based your considerations, gook luck.
