How do I know what to specialize in?
How do I know what I want to specialize in? I'm interested in pediatrics but I also have thought about becoming a hospice nurse. Usually those can be polar opposites so I'm unsure.

Hey coretta! I think when considering a specialisation, one should always consider what really fascinates them& they’re passionate about, while also keeping in mind their long term goals as in what a day in your life in the future will look like. Sometimes there are a lot of preconceived notions regarding a speciality being less “prestige” etc but one shouldn’t just chase that or other people’s validation because ultimately this is something you will have to continue to do for a very long time, so it is your duty to choose what fits your personality and aligns with your long term goals. Pediatrics may not be the most paid speciality out there but the patient dealing is significantly rewarding because usually most pediatrics patients get better very significantly once treated right! And that helps build confidence as a clinician and if you think that sounds like a calling then go for it! But do keep in mind the pros & cons. There is no perfect speciality out there because each has its flaws you just gotta find the one that aligns the most with you! And I’m sure all will workout for the best then. Good luck!!!
