How did you know what you wanted to do with your life post-grad ?

This is my 5th and last year of college and I get a lot of anxiety about the fact that I have so many options don’t know which one is the best one to choose. I want to get my cosmetology and real estate license but I’m not sure which one to do first. I also will need a job when I move back home after my lease is up and it is Just so much to think about all at once. On top of that my mom keeps asking what I want to do and I have no idea. It’s just so overwhelming and frustrating because I feel like I’m surrounded by people who know what their next step in life is.

Hi Zoe,

Thank you for your questions.

You are not the only one feels unsure, actually lots of people don't have clear life plan after college, especially you are juggling multiple big changes all at once. People might switch careers after school, so you choices don't have to be permanent. What matters most right now is not picking the perfect path but taking small, intentional steps forward.

Given your situation, prioritize "survival" first. Your lease is ending soon, so you can focus on securing a stable, part-time or full-time job first, it might be not your dream career, but it will give you financial stability and breathing room to plan.

In terms of licenses mentioned, before choosing, you might break down the requirements for both cosmetology and real estates licenses in Texas: how long is the coursework? how much does it cost? which one can you start with part-time while working? Many people start with the faster, more flexible option first while working, to test if the field fits you before committing fully. You even can try to take a short introductory class or shadow someone in both fields for a day to gain a real feel for the daily work.

Take it easy and best wishes to you.
