Hi Shelia,
First, obtain a Private Investigator license from Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. You'll have to meet experience requirements and pass a background check. Complete your degree first, as your computer forensics experience will distinguish you from most PIs who lack that technological competence. Once licensed, register your business, obtain liability insurance, and establish your specialization. Your degree will provide you a direct advantage in areas such as cyber investigations, fraud, and digital evidence recovery. Build contacts with attorneys and law firms early on, as they are one of the most common sources of PI employment. Start small, take cases, establish a reputation, and then grow from there. Your degree puts you in a category where most private investigators cannot compete.
