Aditi’s Answer

Hey Nasir,
Hope you are doing good!

Editing is one of the major aspects that gives every narrative a life. Having good knowledge about Camera Shots, Shooting Styles matters a lot.
I am a Film maker too and I would recommend for you to look up videos on YouTube and practice specific editing techniques simultaneously. Having a good knowledge of the Software you wish to use, Keyboard shortcuts would be your best friend so try and learn them or have them handy in a diary so eventually you learn them. Telling the story is the most important. Every editor has a style of their own.

Thank you!

Ronald’s Answer

Hello Nasir,

I am a filmmaker myself and edit my own projects. To be a good editor you need to have a good grasp of film language. This will equip you to tell stories with your cuts. I would highly encourage you to watch DVD movies that has director commentaries embedded in them. One of my personal favorites is "The Road to Perdition." There are also plenty of Youtube Channels out there devoted to the craft of film-making. Check out "Every Frame a Painting."

Patience and drive. As an editor I am constantly pushing myself to learn new technology. You also need to be patient with changes.
