Besides the basics of math and reading. You will need to be able to understand blueprints.

Understand how to safely use tools and safety on the job site.

Be honest, willing to learn new skills, timely, hardworking, not a quitter, trustworthy and ethical. Be able to problem solve, find solutions and think outside of the box.

Able to communicate effectively and listen to what others are instructing you to do.

Kathy recommends the following next steps:

Find a company that is willing to bring you on entry level, even if it is just moving materials and cleaning up the job site.
Seek out a union that is looking for labor apprentices.
