What does a software engineer do?

A software engineer writes code or software to run applications that can be useful for a computer user. You use a special "language" to speak with the computer (ex. assembly, C++) to tell it what to do for you. Software engineers solve problems via a computer by writing "programs" that run on a computer and do a particular task or application (ex. accounting packages, database activity, math problems, finance, video games etc).
