Emily’s Answer

Hi Victor,

The two main types of welding are TIG welding and MIG welding. MIG welding tends to be a bit easier, so I would recommend trying to learn this type first. MIG welding is used for bigger objects, while TIG welding tends to be a bit more intricate and works well on smaller objects. TIG welding requires using both hands, in addition to a foot petal. Here's a link with more info on the difference: https://www.fairlawntool.com/blog/mig-vs-tig-welding/

Personally, I learned how to weld through my Sculpture major at my university. This is one way to learn how to weld, but you could also take a community art class if they offer welding, or check out local trade schools if you want to learn how to weld for construction purposes. Regardless of where you learn how to weld, make sure you learn about important safety precautions such as wearing the correct gear to protect yourself while you weld.

Emily recommends the following next steps:

Find a MIG welding class near you
