Matthew’s Answer

The best first step, in my opinion, is to get on social media and promote yourself as much as you can. In the gaming world on Youtube, Twitch, etc it is all about getting your content in front of people that want to watch it. I have had many friends who have gained popularity just by putting out content whether it be good or bad. Mix in your personality with it because some people will follow you based solely on that. You can work on polishing your craft as you go but just getting your name and brand out there is half the battle.

KB’s Answer

To record a game, you'll need screen-recording software. For example, OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). For commentary, it is best to use a microphone of some sort, but not necessary. Then of course, you need a game to play and a YouTube channel to upload to!

What sort of content do you want to create? Are you just going to record whatever you're doing and upload it as-is? Or do you want to edit the videos? Do you have some witty one-liners prepared, or is commentary not your style? The best way to figure out what you want to do is to identify what videos and YouTubers you like best. Figure out what you want to create, then try it!

KB recommends the following next steps:

Download screen-recording software
Decide your video style
Record yourself playing a game
Upload!

Mark’s Answer

there are a few answers out there on the web, one of my friends does Twitch. but you need to be an awesome gamer and be entertaining enough to keep your audience watching and coming back.

I would think about content schedules: meaning how many times are you going to upload, how long will it take you to play a game once and then twice for a walkthrough, are you talking about reviews or new releases and so on.

Also, what games you are playing, are they popluar.. what you might like other people might not as well.

I would also, look into YouTube criteria for getting paid through the subscription process. you could also look at Amazon Affiliates to sell products that you using or games that you are playing to have another source of income.

hope that helps
