Depending on the college you go to, you can study things like English literature, which would be a study of the body of writing from English language writers, usually American or British. Another area of study is English grammar, linguistics, etc., which is more of the study of how sentences and the English language is put together. To go broader, you could also study things like speech communications, and focus on the English language within that context.
