Is there any particularly good way to intern or get experience in stage management?

I want to be a stage manager, but I don't know too much about how to prepare for the career. #musical-theatre #broadway #stage-management

Hello!

If you're still interested in pursuing this as a career, look for productions that are looking for crew members. Something like a community theater play/musical is a great start. If you're in school, look into volunteering for shows there. Productions that have stage managers are the best to learn from. You can always chat with the SM to see if it's the best role for you to pursue. Every college with a theater program has a stage management class or degree concentration if you're looking to develop your education in the subject. As a current professional stage manager, I'm happy to chat with you should you have any follow-up questions.

Well it really depends on where you are in your education. Are you still in high school? If so, then get involved with your school's drama department or seek out some community theatre. If you have a local university see if you can volunteer with their theatre. Get involved first in any way you can so you can see if enjoy working backstage in that kind of environment.
