That all depends on the Rescue but most do require you to be at least 16 years old. Call the rescues around you and ask for their age requirements. Good Luck!

For most animal rescue teams, you must be at least 18 years old to volunteer independently, especially for roles involving direct animal handling, rescue operations, or driving transport vehicles due to legal liability and insurance policies.

However, many organizations offer pathways for younger volunteers:

Ages 16–17: Often allowed to assist with shelter tasks, event coordination, or socialization, sometimes requiring written parental consent.

Ages 10–15: Can usually participate in "junior volunteer" or foster programs, provided they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

My rescue also requires one to be 16 or older. There is another rescue that has no building and strictly volunteer based using fosters and pet store events in which we allow younger people to work at the events when accompanied by a parent.
