Yes, criminal justice is the field you want to choose. Many college's have the police program in the school. The police academy, hires directly from the college upon completion of the course. They have everything you need at the college to become a sucessful officer. Most community college's offer this, one good thing about going into the field is that you can complete this quickly and be working quickly.
