In United States, you will definitely need a doctorate degree (mostly PhD) to become a professor.

However, if you just want to be an instructor/lecturer, a masters degree will suffice.

Do you just want to teach or do you also want to pursue research and acquire grants for your university? A professor needs to publish multiple papers and continue research, besides teaching.

In India, you can become a lecturer/instructor with a Post Graduate Diploma/Masters degree if you just want to teach.
