One of the best ways to learn game design is to start doing it! You can build levels in games like Minecraft or Roblox, or start experimenting with game engines like Unreal or Unity, or even work on paper designs like making your own board game or playing Dungeons & Dragons. That is how many of the game designers I know got started.

There are also a lot of great game design tutorial videos on YouTube that will walk you through the process, whether it’s designing game levels or more system level mechanics.

If you try it out and really enjoy it, you can also investigate schools that have game design majors.
