Rita’s Answer

Although I'm not an engineer, my father was an engineer. I don't think there is a clear answer. My father went to college for 4 years and then went to get his PhD which was another 5 years. You don't necessarily need to get a PhD. He was a mechanical engineer and worked on airplanes.

However, it requires you at minimum 4 yrs to study in regular program for undergraduates degree and 2 years for MSc degree and so on. Michael’s Answer

It really all depends on the engineering practice you are looking at. There are many, including, Electrical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Structural Engineering, Applied Engineering, Chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, etc... Typically for one of these degrees it can take 4 years or longer. However, there are many engineering programs that only require 2 years of study. As an example, my sister is an engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation and it only took a 2 year program to qualify for that.

Baljit’s Answer

Hi Yong,
There are numerous types of engineering jobs and it requires a 4 year degree program. The 2 year program is known as an associate degree in engineering. Engineering is seen as one of the most intensive degrees and work that a person can do, but its definitely worth is because there is so much you can do. Maybe you could do a career personality test online to decide what kind of engineer you want to be.
