what are some important qualities/skills to be a good pschologist?

questions i have for assignment

Thank you comment icon Hi Kailey! This is a great question. As someone who majored in psychology and worked in research, I know that this varies widely depending on what kind of psychologist you mean. Can you edit your question to add some more details? What kind of job or services do you want to perform as a psychologist? What kinds of people do you want to work with? Are you thinking a therapy setting, research setting, etc.? Let us know, and I'd love to help more! Thanks so much for using CV. :) Alexandra Carpenter, Admin

Great question! I’ve found the most helpful qualities to be self-awareness and mindfulness/presence, which you can get from your own therapy and meditation/mindfulness practices. I do DBT which is skills based and I’m using the skills myself all day everyday including in sessions with my clients. Without these qualities, it’s very easy to allow your own biases and ineffective behaviors to affect the therapeutic work you are guiding your client in.
