Are there even jobs involving folklore?

folklore is awesome, so I'd like to study it, but I've also heard its not a stable job.

Brianna’s Answer

Hi, Sydney,

You should look into things like literature, cultural anthropology, history, or cultural studies (African, Asian, European, etc.). However, you should know that, if you want to study folklore as a job, you'll almost definitely have to get a PhD so that you can work as a researcher (funded by grants) or a professor. Something to consider is also learning the language(s) of te folklore you're interested in as a skill applicable to more potential careers.

Julia’s Answer

Sydney,

I studied History in college because I loved it and was inspired by the teaching staff at my school. I also loved anthropology and linguistics, But now I work in technology. You might consider studying folklore with the aim of becoming an educator, and as Brianna said, pursuing a phD to be a researcher or college professor. Or you could study it alongside other classes so it adds color and passion to your life. Some people mnake podcasting careers out of this subject, too!
