What is the youngest age you can use a EMT certification in North Carolina??

I am 16 years old and one class away from gaining my EMT certification through my local community college. However, I feel as it if is frowned upon for younger persons to work in the healthcare profession.

Congratulations to you 1 class away from obtaining your EMT certification! Due to the shortage of EMTs some states have or in the process of changing the age requirement from 18 to 16. Some states offer Junior EMT programs for youth who are usually around 14-17 years old. In most instances, if you are under the require age then they allow for parental permission before you can attend classes or work as an EMT.
To ensure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information, I recommend visiting the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services website or contacting them directly to confirm age requirements. Communicate with the career counselor and your instructor at your community college. Attend community events/expo that are offer in your area and network with EMTs who can provide information and support to help you achieve and succeed. I wish you the very best.
