There is a lot of opportunities working in the offices of politicians. You should reach out to your local state or federal representative and ask the office manager what a good entry point would be for a job in one of those types of offices. They hire interns all the time.

A strong political science career starts with getting a solid academic foundation through a bachelor’s degree, then building real‑world experience as early as possible. The biggest career boost comes from internships such as with local government offices, nonprofits, advocacy groups, or legislative staff. These roles teach you how politics works in practice. From there, many people grow by networking, volunteering on campaigns, joining professional organizations, or learning specialized skills like data analysis or policy research. Some political science careers (like policy analysis or academia) may require graduate school, but many roles in government, advocacy, and public service do not. The best way to start is to combine your education with hands‑on experience and build relationships in the areas of politics that interest you most.
