The biggest advantage is to be a good storyteller. When reading all the admissions essays they all start to sound the same, so if you can tell your story well it will stand out. Being involved in organizations is great, but let them know why you love it and stayed involved and try to take on leadership roles. Talk about your role on a team and how you contributed to it. That will help you stand out no matter which organizations you join.
