Would joining a sports team in college be worth it?

I want to attend a college that offers great sports programs. Whether that would be playing it or watching games.

Hello! Attending a university or college that has sports could be a great thing if you enjoy sports. Even if its not on a serious competitive level it can still be a great choice. Sports allows you to remain physically in shape and mentally discipline. You can also meet and enjoy others that may have the same interest as you for the sports you love.

Hi Levi. If you mean a casual/recreational sports team: I think sports teams like this are a fantastic way to get some built-in pastimes into your busy day, meet like-minded friends, stay up-to-date with something you're passionate about, and, if you're playing the sport rather than just watching, a fun way to get some physical activity in!!

And if you mean varsity, the same advantages as above apply, AND you might get sports based scholarships. However, in this case it basically becomes like a paid job (i.e. they're paying you via scholarship), and takes several hours of intense effort daily. I hear from athlete friends that it is very rewarding to them - but they would work out two hours in the morning, do hours of class, then hours of practice, then more workout, then homework and studying. It's intense.

If you want to let me know why you're not convinced, I can try and provide some thinking points!

Hi Levi! I would suggest applying to a school which offers you the major you are looking for. If it also has a good sports program, all the better. Is your career geared toward a collegiate sport? Are you thinking of playing professionally? If so, looking for a college that has a good sports team is important. If not, apply to a school which has a good program for the major you want to study. Hope this helps. Oh and by the way, most colleges have a good sports team. Public and private.
