What biology- related careers exist?

I'm interested in biology, and would ideally like a job that encompasses this interest. I also plan to horseback ride competitively after college, and need relatively flexible hours to do so. Are there any biology- related professions that will give me the flexibility and salary to continue my horseback riding (eventing) at a high level? If not, what other professions exist that will allow me to continue my sport? I currently have a 5.1 GPA and take almost all AP classes.

Ronald’s Answer

Hello Amanda,

You can parley your interest in biology and love for horses perhaps in the field of veterinary medicine or as a veterinary technician.

Don’s Answer

There are biology related careers that exist. I suggest you look them up in the OOH (Occupational Outlook Handbook). This book is from the US Dept. of Labor and can give you the following information: Titles, salaries, job descriptions, related jobs in field, and most important career trends (is this a good or bad field to go into) it will give you negative or positive percentage growth in each field you look up.

What Can You Do with a Major In website (Google this) this will give you examples of things you do with a Biology degree as well as particular websites where you can find job opportunities.

Don recommends the following next steps:

Understand and Review the OOH (Occupational Outlook Handbook) online as well as What Can You Do With A Major In.
Look up Biology related jobs and find out more about each of the fields that related to your interests.
Make sure that the jobs related to Biology are going to be open and goo long term positions.
