Jake’s Answer

I agree with many of the answers above.

I want to add that if you are not pursuing a passion (whether that be through your job or in your free time) you won't often feel successful. If your passion is to make money, maybe you will! There are a few books about defining success, and the most important thing is you define your purpose in life, what is the end goal, where are you going and where do you want to be?

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Emma !

You have asked a question for all time ! It is great that you are concerned about being proactive and a success in life. Whether it is your professional career or personal life, success is established in many unique different ways and based on many various ideas and life experiences.

I would advise that the way to professional success is to discover success in your personal life. If you have that foundation, you can build upon that for many successes in whatever you do. First, establish your definition of success as it applies to your life as a whole. This is part of personal growth. A good website to read to spark some ideas would be Skills You Need and I have provided a link to their website below. Also search on line for various philosophies about success. Based on the insight you gain, come up with your own definition of what success is.

As you develop your mental and emotional strength, that will help you succeed in life. You will probably want personal and profession success and if you have personal successes, that is a great asset for being successful in your career, too. A website that has some tips on how to be successful is The Very Well Mind website's article How Success is Defined and How You Can Achieve it. The link to this is below.

As for career success, actual specific advise would be based on your particular career. You can assess your values - what is important to you. What are your favorite subjects ? Is success measured by financial achievement, personal happiness or both ? Figure out who you are and how you would like to advance. Success means so many different things to everyone, so it's a great time now to figure out your personal philosophy and set goals for yourself for what you want to achieve.

I agree with your positive statement in your question. You are on the right track. College and a major are wonderful plans that can prepare you for career success as well as personal growth. We all come across negative messages from other people, things that don't work out, but look at those as lessons with a message. Try to continue with things in your own way in your own time.

I hope that this was a bit of help and I wish you the best in all you do !

Jerome’s Answer

I think success is something you have to define. I know individuals who are assistant managers and far happier than some directors I know. Is success for you money? Is it a title? Is it a balanced life?

Once you know what’s important to you, figuring out what you are passionate about and trying to gleam success through that thing is an amazing balance to find.
