What all classes can I take in college?

If you are wanting to major in a certain topic, is there specific classes that you have to take the whole time or would you be able to take other classes that you would be interested in? #collegeclasses

Hi Georgia!

This is a good question! I agree with Tracey above but would like to add on. I went to a liberal arts college and majored in accounting. I did have a set course load for my major as well as some common requirements (classes every student must take to graduate) for my college overall. However, I did have plenty of time to take classes outside of my major that I had an interest in. I ended up taking classes in almost every discipline and really enjoyed them.

I think what college you attend also plays a role in this. If you went to a business school, your options for a range of classes might be more limited, same with any other college that focuses on one area or discipline. If you are like me and have a wide range of interests, you might look into a liberal arts college because they do tend to encourage you to take classes in more than one area or discipline. Many state schools also have a wide range of classes you can take.

Hope this helps!

Tracey’s Answer

Hi Georgia,

When you chose a major, there are certain you must take to fulfill degree requirement. Most times, degree programs allow for elective classes where the student can take classes of their choosing. The best thing to do here is talk to the advisor for your major and they will be able to direct to the classes that you must take and the ones you can sign up for enrichment.
