The friends i have that have played professional basketball spend their time recovering, weight training, stretching, and some even play video games. the really good ones also do film sessions to get better than their competition.

I am sure someone else can answer this question better than I can but, from my experience in sports is that in your spare time you are working to be the best, and continuing to work harder than everyone else. It may also depend on the player, whether or not he needs that extra push.
