Allison’s Answer

Kelli, the short answer is either way. Check with your college career services to see if they offer assistance in finding internships. Some do and will help you secure one if they have a close relationship with certain companies. Also, look into the requirements for your major to see if you can receive college credit for completing an internship. Make sure to look on your own for internships in your desired field. The best thing you can do is take the initiative and research on the web and learn about the companies, government agencies, and non-profits that may offer internships in your location. Try asking family and friends they know of any opportunities. Your network is a great resource. Good luck!

Hi Kelli J. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

I'll add to the awesome advice provided on how to find an internship....completing an internship can include many important steps as well. I provide a few. To successfully complete an internship 1) Always be on time. It is a way to demonstrate your work ethic to the team/company that has hired you. 2) Complete the task that you have been given (which sometimes is different from the task you may want) to the very best of your ability. Teams/companies need to know that you can perform and when you do well, oftentimes you are rewarded by moving on to tasks that are more in line with your preferences. 3)Ask for feedback and adjust when/if needed. One of the best ways of lining up a future internship is to do well on the one you currently have so that you can be invited back :). Remember that participating in an internship and doing well can only boost your resume and your future job prospects.

Best of luck to you!
