Is Nc State worth it?

Hello, I am a Highschool Senior about to graduate and I can't decide where to go for college. I really wanted to go to NC State, but I did not get a full ride and I'm wondering if it's worth the debt to go there. (I got offered 60% in financial aid). My question is, is it worth it?

Hello Brenda! It's great that you're thinking about how your decisions affect your future! Choosing a college is a big deal, both financially and personally. Here’s how to make a smart choice:

1. **Cost of Attending NC State**
- With 60% financial aid, you need to cover the remaining 40%. This might involve taking loans, working part-time, or finding more scholarships.
- Consider all expenses: tuition, housing, meals, books, and living costs.
- Compare these costs with other schools that might offer better financial aid.

2. **Career Goals & Earning Potential**
- What’s your major? Degrees like engineering or business often offer high returns, making NC State a good investment.
- Check NC State’s job placement rates for your field. Do graduates get well-paying jobs?
- Look at starting salaries in your major to see how quickly you can repay loans.

3. **Comparing Alternatives**
- Did another school offer better financial aid? Compare it with NC State in terms of academics, job prospects, and networking.
- Consider in-state public universities, community colleges for general credits, or transfer options to save money.

4. **Minimizing Debt**
- If you choose NC State, seek more scholarships, grants, or work-study options.
- Can you work part-time to help with costs?
- Plan your loan repayment. Ideally, keep student loan payments under 10-15% of your future income.

**Final Thoughts**
NC State is a great school, but taking on debt needs careful thought. If your future salary can handle loan payments, it might be worth it. If not, look for cheaper schools that still provide a good education.

**Pro Tip:** Use ChatGPT to calculate student loan debt against expected salary. This can help you decide if NC State is financially wise!
