Hi Jennifer!
Interior decor is knowing the style and aesthetic of the space/room and choose the design piece that enhance the space, it should be cohesive and blend in with the style well. They can be just for decoration or have a meaning behind them to make it more valuable. There are many styles when it comes to interior, such as Art Deco, Mountain, African, Bauhaus, Contemporary, and more! Usually you would be able to tell what style of the room is based on the materials, furniture and set up, or sometimes there is a combination of two styles, sometimes there is no particular style. When decorating the interior, always pay attention to the colors that is already used, texture on the surfaces and if there is anything that stand out to you. You can choose many things to add to the space, including lighting, books, art, plants, pillows, curtains, lamps, seating, carpet, toys, etc. You also think about the materials for each of these items, making sure they are comfortable and appropriate for its purpose. The space should give off a sense of safety and comfort, it can be welcoming, bold, colorful, or simple, however you like!

Many people confuse interior designer and interior decorator. While an interior designer will do the work of an interior decorator, an interior decorator cannot do the work of an interior designer. If you love fabrics, furniture, but do not like geometry and construction, you can study as an interior designer but work as a decorator. An interior design degree is typically 4 years, but you may be able to find associate degrees in community college in interior decor.

If you are good with colors, good at drawing/sketching/drafting, generating 3D renderings, or even use AI tools to do the work for you, you can become a decorator without formal training. You will need to know how to measure, draft a floor plans and elevations, but that's about it. You may subcontract the window treatments and therefore not know much about this. If you have a portfolio that allows you to gain clients, you can start your own business. I have met in my career few wanna-be interior decorators, but their portfolios were poor and did not showcase their potential talent. Most medium to large interior design or architecture firm will hire decorators, but many interior designers with a college degree will probably apply too, so it may be challenging to get a job without a 4-year college degree, unless you are really talented.

I hope this helps!

Interior decor is a very vast and growing industry! It can range from layout arrangements, all the way to the 3D modeling processes before the room/building is even constructed.

A lot of fields are constructed in a way that requires something called a pipeline. How you can look at it is a massive step by step between all the different people to get the job done. If you're looking at interior design or decor, here is the typical pipe:
-Design Proposal
-Approved by owners
-Construction prep
-Measure
-Transportation decorate material
-water electrician
-masonry
-landfill trough
-bathroom
-kitchen
-walls
-tile laying
-woodwork
-ceiling
-furniture
-paintwork
-misc decor

Hope this answers some of your question!
