How can I as a homeschooled student build up my college application?

I’m a homeschooler who will be attending community college to be able to save up money before being able to go to a four year university and I aim to get my masters degree. So how can I build up my application and resume?

Karin’s Answer

Hi Chelsee,

What do you do outside of being home-schooled? Have you got extracurricular activities that would be beneficial for college applications? It would depend on your intended major what that could be, but look for opportunities to volunteer, intern or start a part-time job. Sports or other hobbies that give you an opportunity to show your ability to work in a team as well as your leadership potential, are also popular.

I hope this helps! All the best!

Thank you comment icon Thank you, Karin for the advice. I’m planning to study psychology and I currently don’t have any sports or extracurriculars but I am working on it! Chelsee
Thank you comment icon For psychology, look for opportunities to intern or volunteer. It doesn't have to be a psychology position, but could be an old age home, a homeless shelter or a child care facility if that's an area of psychology you might be interested in. You could volunteer for a crisis helpline. You could approach companies to intern in HR if you are more into industrial psychology. Karin P.

Andres’s Answer

Hi Chelsea, have a project you like. Your application must be transparent and genuine. Above all, you must have leadership skills and propose solutions to various problems facing humanity or the community. You must be able to propose projects and have a clear understanding of yourself and your ideas. This is what you should work on to create your university application.
