How can I follow either of these dream career paths?
How can I pursue a career in racing, specifically in Formula 1? Or, how do I get a job with a German auto manufacturer, such as BMW, Porsche, or Mercedes? I'd like to live abroad in Germany working for them. For background, I am a current mechanical engineering major, minoring in German.

Hi Juliana,
That's an awesome career goal. Since you are already studying Mechanical Engineering, look for internships with those companies. They are all present in the US.
Studying in Germany would also be an excellent opportunity to learn about life in Germany and possibly make connections. The German DAAD offers scholarships for international exchange.
While you are in the US, try to get some hands-on experience in the automotive sector and/or with a racing team.
I hope this helps! Alles Gute!

Hey, mechanical engineering and a German minor are a fantastic foundation for these dream career paths!
Many F1 teams are based in the UK (e.g Mercedes-AMG in Brackley, Red Bull in Milton Keynes), so that could be a great stepping stone if you’re open to starting there before moving to Germany.
Since youre already studying German, consider a study abroad program in Germany, it’s a perfect way to immerse yourself in the culture and start building industry connections.
It’s a competitive field, but with the proper research and steps, you will find your way. Good luck, and enjoy the journey!
