Listening to older techs is important because they have valuable experience. Always be ready to learn, as things are always changing, and being open to this is key.

It depends on what you want to do in the field. For a least the next 5-10 years, there'll be a need for people to simple mechanical work like oil changes and mounting tires. However, these jobs will be lower paid and may disappear as robots become capable of doing simple tasks.
If you want to have job security and a higher income then you'll need an deep understanding of technologies. This will help you troubleshoot and correct issues. Electronics in particular are the next frontier since new cars are computers on wheels.
