Hello. Medical Imaging includes Sonography (ultrasound), x-ray, MRI, CT. It all depends on what type of license you get. I strongly advise getting AS degree, then you can choose if you want to be an x-ray tech. Having your AART opens the doors to becoming an MRI tech, CT, Nuclear medicine. Beware of MRI schools, and make sure they are AART accredited. Check the JCERT website. . If you only want to be an MRI tech it's ok, but this will limit your chances to explore other modalities. You may start by shadowing a tech. You may go to a local Imaging facility, talk to the office manager, and ask if you can shadow a tech, as you are exploring options. make sure the program you choose is accredited by AART, and to check this, you may go to JCERT website. Trust me when I say that even if it takes a little longer, it's worth doing it right, but if you really need a job sooner, you may get your limited x-ray license, still finish AS degree, then after 1 year of experience, along with AS degree you may apply to get your full x-ray license. I hope this help, and I speak from experience. I was an MRI tech for 5 years, and now I am back in school to finish my AS degree. The MRI school I went to closed while I was in clinicals. I was not able to get a job as a tech as the school was not AART certified. I am doing i right this time, but it will be worth it. Good luck, and I hope I was able to help, but I can guarantee diagnostic Imaging is the way to go.
