It's a busy environment. In most special education classes, teachers lead the lessons. For younger students, lessons should be interactive, and this approach can be used for high school students too. There's a lot of paperwork, so use planning time well for tracking progress, gathering data, and writing IEPs.

Being a special education teacher is a journey full of ups and downs. There are joyful moments when students grasp a new concept or gain confidence in a skill that once seemed tough. There are also challenging times when emotions are intense, plans shift, or a student needs extra support. My role is to guide them through all of this, putting in the effort each day, even when it feels tough. Some days bring big successes, while others feel like an uphill climb. But what truly matters is the long-term impact. Watching students grow over time, seeing them become independent, confident, and capable, makes every challenge worthwhile.
