What opportunities should I look for in college to help me stand out in a future career in either zoology or marine biology?

I am currently a high school senior. My goal is to study marine biology or zoology in college so that I can get a career working with animals. From talking to college students and professors, I have learned that it is important to get research experience in college, but I want to know if there is anything else I can do now and when I am in college to help me work towards my career goals.

Hi Hannah 👋🏻...
Since you want a career in zoology or marine biology the best thing you can do now is gain experience with animals by volunteering at aquariums zoos wildlife rehab centers or local conservation projects This shows you are serious and gives you hands-on experience

In college research experience is key like working in labs or on field projects with professors Also try to take internships or summer programs related to wildlife or marine science They give you real-world skills and look great on applications Networking with professors grad students or professionals in the field can open doors too

Finally build your skills in biology chemistry statistics and coding if possible They are very useful for research and data analysis The more hands-on experience research and relevant skills you gather the more you will stand out for your future career
