Best CA colleges for pre-law/Political Science undergrad?

I’m looking to transfer to a 4-year university, after finishing community college for undergrad, so either a UC or CSU. I don’t want to attend a college that’ll leave me too in debt, coming from a low income background. I plan on working in college too, to earn some money. I’m really interested in Berkeley, or USC, but I fear those are a reach, and will cost too much, especially when law school is costly.

Martha D.’s Answer

Hi, Arianna, and thank you for sharing this heartfelt and prudent question. Most colleges / universities offer a political science degree, and pre-law requires no specific major. That said, the top schools in California for political science undergrads seem to be Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego. While not on that list, USC is an excellent school and practices need-blind admissions, which means needing scholarships will not count against you in admissions (see link below).
Wherever you go, remember that you can always ask the financial aid office for reconsideration of any package they offer you, especially if your circumstances change. Wishing you good luck!
