What type of training do you need to become a detective?

Hello, I am a student at Crane Middle School and want to become a detective in the future. I want to become a detective because I always wanted to help people. I believe I can become a detective because of my problem solving skills. I also would rather be a detective rather than a patrol officer because of things like better pay and investigations. I want to help people by giving them closure by them knowing the person who committed the crime is in jail.

Good day,

It’s great that you want to become a detective and help people. Many detectives start their careers as patrol officers so they can gain experience working with the public and responding to different situations. If you decide to go to college, majors like criminal justice, psychology, or social work can be helpful, but many different majors can lead to a career in law enforcement. Right now, you can start building important skills by paying attention to details, solving problems, communicating clearly, and doing your best in school.
