What are some steps I can take currently as a student to become a police officer in the future?

I am a 7th grader who is very big and was told to be a police officer as a joke by my family. I took it lightly and realized that I could be a police officer for more than just my physical appearance. I can help people in danger and stop future danger from happening. I just don’t know where to start and I want to reach this dream.

How do I pursue a federal law enforcement field? What other fields are good for my major?

It’s been quite a while since my last question on here, and now I’m currently entering my senior year. I plan on majoring in homeland security (if i can go to a school with that major of course), and i hope to double major with a second major in behavioral science if not, criminal justice. I still haven’t been able to figure out a path after graduating though. I’d like to try and go for the FBI even if it’s ambitious, but do you guys have any advice for going in the federal law enforcement route? thanks in advance

#spring23 In forensics, how do you know when to look into something or when to leave it alone or how to gage its significance?

I love forensics and I always get caught up in the details that don't really have significance in the case, but I'm not sure how to tell if a detail is significant in that particular matter.

Will becoming a police officer make me shoot someone?

I want to be a police officer, and then go up to either become an FBI agent or a homicide detective (considering I pass all exams). I read I have to be a cop first before becoming a detective and have some type of experience to become an FBI agent. The thing is though, I really don't -and I mean at all- want to shoot someone, yet I don't want to be stuck in an office. I know circumstances change what one does, and I know I have to protect others and myself from dangers, yet I don't want to be caught up in it. If curcumstances are called for it, I could maybe shoot someone, but my biggest fear is killing someone even if it is for something like defending mysef or others. Does anyone in the law enforcement force been through this? If this is my fear, then should I change career? Will becoming an FBI agent make me do the same thing?
