Can a person with ADHD become a detective?

I'm 17 years old, and I've planned on entering law enforcement for years now, hoping to become a detective that works specifically on a special victims unit. However, I was diagnosed with both ADHD and ODD back when I was in 1st grade. I'm currently on medication for both. I've heard online that people with ADHD aren't legally allowed to own firearms, which is necessary for a police officer/detective. Is this true? Will this affect my ability to enter my dream career? I really don't want to have to find a fallback career after focusing on this path and curating all of my clubs/elective courses purely on law enforcement.

What are the career steps in law enforcement to become a detective?

I have the dream to be a detective, but I am not sure where to start. I have had thoughts of joining the NYPD, but how dangerous is that? I have also considered being a state trooper. What are the steps and how long, on average, would the process take before I could become a detective? And would I be able to choose the department I join?

What’s the best way to deal with burnout or stress in high-pressure fields like law enforcement?

I will be a freshman in college this fall, and while graduation is far away, I want to have a general idea of what I want to do so that my degree will be helpful in my career. I would like to become an FBI agent after graduating from college, and I know that the job, like many others, can take a strong emotional toll, and I want to be prepared.

Police or Lawyer?

I’m torn between wanting to be a police officer and a lawyer. Law would be a lot harder but pay better, but police seems more feasible. Any advice on how to choose?

What Careers Might Be Good For Me?

I have been looking into different jobs that co-align with some of my interest, and looking at jobs that are pretty realistic for the future. I find events that have to do with crime to be interesting and something that I would want to look more into. Things that would be kind of hands on but still have a writing aspect to them are also something I would like in a job. I have thought about being a forensic scientist or a cop or lawyer, which all fall into a field of interest for me, but I was wondering if there might be any other jobs that seem to match up with the ones I have described. I was also wondering what people who have pursued these career paths have to say about them and what helped them to become interested and make their dreams of pursuing these careers possible.

Im Completely lost within myself and my future college choice, please help!!!

Hi! Im currently a Senior in high-school, around the Dmv area. I have never really thought about what I wanted to have a degree in or in general what lies ahead of me. In the beginning of the school year i was thinking about majoring in Nursing specifically wanting to be a PICU Nurse. But later on realized My family can't afford to spend that much money but also wasn't planning on being in school for a long time. Then around like November, I was thinking about majoring in Forensic, and after having a not so friendly encounter with a Forensic Teacher in a different school, i felt unmotivated. But now I'm either thinking about joining the Marines/ Train to become a State Cop/or just go back to forensic. Especially since i have already applied to 2 Universities for Forensic Science and BioTechnology (Pre-Forensic Studies). I know it might sound cheesy but i just want to work to give me parents someone to rely on, Im the oldest out of my siblings and I don't know what I'm doing on CommonApp. Ive been just putting information I know and later on asking friends and my parents about other things. Im First-Gen and I very exhausted and overwhelmed. Please help!!
