Does being a animal cop pay the bills and what kind of schooling do you need?
By animal cop I mean someone who has a long truck with cages built in and responds to people calling then saying things like “ my neighbor has left their dog outside for three days without food” or “ theirs some stay dog that need rescuing here “

Thank you for clarifying!
Here is the complete pay-scale for the City of San Antonio. I'm giving you the entire thing so you can compare the "animal" positions at the top of page 2 to what other positions make. This is not a complete answer to your question, though. What I see looking at this is there is limited opportunity to reach a really good salary. This salary is okay, but, in today's economy, would still be difficult for a single person to live on, even here in San Antonio. It's not a bad starting salary, but you need more. Animaly Cruelty Investigator pays more than animal control officer. https://www.sanantonio.gov/Portals/0/Files/EmployeeInformation/Compensation/PayPlan.pdf
Here are salaries for Sioux Falls, SD. You will find the Animal Control positions listed under the Police Department. It appears the lowest Salary is $23.36/hr. When comparing hourly rate to yearly rate, simply multiply the hourly rate by 2080 (there are 2080 work hours in a year).
If you are thinking about moving to another city, you need to know that the cost of living in some cities (like New York) is much higher. This website will let you compare two different cities to see if you need to earn more while living elsewhere. https://www.bankrate.com/real-estate/cost-of-living-calculator/
Here are job descriptions for San Antonio "animal" positions, including training requirements. Don't let these scare you away. They make it sound like no one can meet the requirements, but, you start at entry level and work your way up. You can also get experience volunteering at the animal shelter or working at a doggy daycare! https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/sanantoniotx/classspecs?keywords=animal&page=1
Here are Texas state requirements for animal control officers. It includes a very thorough training manual you might find interesting! https://www.dshs.texas.gov/notifiable-conditions/zoonosis-control/education/animal-control-officers
As to whether a job pays enough to pay the bills, it sort of depends on your living situation and standard of living. If you are frugal, you should do fine. If you enjoy the finer things in life, probably not. But then, if you have shared living arrangements with one or more other people, then perhaps it's enough. Lots of variables to that question.
Hope this helps - good luck to you!!

The pay is or should be good dependant in place or department and location and the retirement should be a defined pension plan which is good because you get a percentage of your pay for the rest of your life and still work another job
