Hello,
This is a good career field to pursue. There are many apprenticeship style opportunities where you can work and go to school at the same time. If you have a specific manufacturer that you want to specialize in or want general knowledge, that is up to you. Here are some examples in the links below. Expert mechanics never stop learning, usually a 2yr degree is what you will earn via a college/apprenticeship education. Good luck and work hard and you will do well.

You can become a mechanic in just 6 to 12 months if you choose a trade school or certificate program. If you aim for an associate degree, it will take about 2 years. Apprenticeships last 1 to 4 years, but you get paid while you learn. Plus, the schedules are flexible, so you can choose to study full-time or part-time.

If you're interested in the automotive field, it's a great idea to start working on your ASE certification while you're still in high school. Your automotive classes often cover the costs, and you can get help from your teachers as you earn these certifications. Having some ASE certifications can really help when you move on to community college for more automotive classes. Plus, if you choose to work for a specific car brand, they'll provide training to teach you everything you need to know about their vehicles. This early start can set you up for success!
