How do I get involved with non profits?
I want to work with specifically with the Hispanic American community! I don't know where to start though. What are some good volunteer opportunities that would give me some experience?

It's wonderful that you're so passionate about social impact work and supporting the Hispanic American community!
The best way to get some experience is to first find the organizations you're interested in supporting. For example, is there an intersectional issue area that you're excited about - politics/rights? education? women/children's issues? etc. From there, check the opportunities available on the org's website and if there aren't any volunteer positions listed, reach out or stop by to ask. Nonprofits could always use the help!
Here are some organizations that can offer you a local starting point, provided by a friend of mine who lives in Omaha:
The Latino Center of the Midlands - this is a hub so would be a good place to meet people and learn more about the nonprofit landscape: https://www.latinocenter.org/

Visit their websites and look for a “Volunteer,” “Get Involved,” or “Become a Volunteer” page. Many organizations post their current volunteer needs online.
If you don’t see any volunteer opportunities listed, don’t let that stop you. Reach out to the organization’s Executive Director, Volunteer Coordinator, or Community Engagement staff member. Introduce yourself, share why you’re interested in supporting the Hispanic community, and ask how you can help. Nonprofits need all kinds of volunteers, from mentoring and tutoring to event support, marketing, administration, fundraising, and technology assistance. Sometimes they’ll even create an opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic and willing to serve.
The key is to be proactive. Your willingness to reach out and build relationships can open doors that aren’t advertised online.
