Would you rather teach middle or high school, or become a college professor?
I am about to graduate college and I am deciding if I want to teach middle or high school, or become a college professor. If you’ve had experience in any, what is the best? #Spring2026

I enjoy working with high school students. They are at a stage where they are planning their futures, and I can help them discover and grow in new areas.

Hi Abigayle :) I taught first-year college students public speaking for 4 semesters... it was a blast! I think college students differ from middle/high school primarily because you can create more challenging learning opportunities and have more back and forth with them. College students will often have a more personal stake in their learning, because they will be paying for it and wanting your knowledge to carry with them into their future careers. I was able to give my students opportunities to participate and grow and they took it. It was a very rewarding experience. I think High School would also be an excellent choice, as you get to help students learn and transition from childhood to early adulthood.
As you think more about this decision, I encourage you to engage in conversations with High School Teachers and College Professors, so you can form the best opinion. Good luck and let me know if you have any follow-up questions!
