What are the requirements to become a teacher for an Elementary Education student ?

As a Junior majoring in Elementary Education, that passion has developed into a clear purpose: becoming a teacher who inspires, supports, and uplifts the next generation. My academic journey, leadership roles, and community involvement have all strengthened my commitment to this path and prepared me to make a meaningful impact in the classroom.

Throughout my time at Clinton College, I have built a diverse skill set that spans education, student support services, wellness, and community health. These experiences have shaped me into a well‑rounded student leader who understands the importance of nurturing both the academic and personal well‑being of young learners. I believe that teaching extends far beyond delivering lessons; it requires empathy, patience, cultural awareness, and the ability to meet students where they are. My involvement on campus has allowed me to practice these qualities daily.

I have had the privilege of serving as a TRIO Orientation Leader and a Clinton College Orientation Leader, roles that taught me how to guide, mentor, and support new students as they transition into college life. These positions strengthened my communication skills, leadership abilities, and confidence in working with diverse groups of students. Additionally, my participation in the Clinton College Gospel Choir, Drumline, and Royal Court has allowed me to represent my institution with pride while contributing to a vibrant campus community. These organizations have taught me discipline, teamwork, and the importance of showing up with excellence in everything I do.

I am also honored to be a recipient of both the Clinton College Gospel Choir Scholar and Clinton College Drumline Scholar awards. These recognitions reflect my dedication, work ethic, and commitment to balancing academic success with extracurricular involvement. They remind me that when I invest fully in my passions, I can achieve more than I ever imagined.

My previous experience in customer service and childcare has further prepared me for a career in education. Through these roles, I learned how to remain patient under pressure, communicate effectively with families, and create supportive environments for children. These skills translate directly into the classroom, where teachers must be adaptable, compassionate, and attentive to the needs of every student.

Receiving this scholarship would not only support my educational goals but also empower me to continue developing as a future educator. I am committed to using my education, leadership experience, and passion for service to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for my future students. I believe that every child deserves a teacher who believes in them, and I am determined to be that teacher.

You will need to take the Praxis to get your certification. Make sure to look at the Dept. of Education in the state you want to work to see their requirements for teachers especially for elementary and the Praxis score needed: https://praxis.ets.org/state-requirements.html
