What does writing a thesis look like?
I am curious as to what everyone's experience is on writing a thesis? What all is involved in writing a thesis? Does it involve a full research paper approved by the IRB?

Hi Katherine-
This will entirely depend on the expectations of the department, program, and university. If you're already in a program that ends with a thesis, you can look up the theses of former students, especially recently graduated ones, to see some examples of what is expected. This has been the most useful way for me to understand the expectations for a thesis/dissertation in my degrees.
If your thesis involves human subjects and you want to publish it with a journal or conference, or if it's part of a professor's research program, you may need to have your research study approved by your school's IRB. The IRB process will depend a lot on what the research is and where it will be published - your school/advisor can help you navigate this when the time is right. You need to have an idea of the type of study you want to do before submitting to the IRB.
Hope this helps!
