What are the pros and cons of working as a preschool teacher verses a 1st grade teacher?
I am going to college to get my ECE degree, but I am not sure if I want to pursue teaching preschool or first grade. I would love to know the key aspects of each role.

Hi! I taught first grade for three years and loved it for many reasons. In first grade, kids make the biggest progress in reading. They also start doing more hands-on science activities. At this age, their attention span improves, and they can work independently. This allows time for one-on-one or group sessions, which really helps with personalized learning. It was amazing to see those "AHA" moments when things clicked for them.
During college, I worked in a preschool and interned in kindergarten. Both were very different from first grade. There was a lot more movement and learning through play and singing. Pre-K and kindergarten required much more energy from me every day. But if you enjoy play-based learning and music, these are great options too.
