I am not a diesel mechanic, but there is something about understanding how technical things work and how to fix them that's just very appealing. And you see the result of your efforts right away!

How not to use brake cleaner fluid. (You'll understand the joke when you are a diesel tech!)
I have not been a diesel tech but I have worked closely with a whole bunch of them. I know they all love their jobs because its hands on labor. I think its also a great step into other jobs as well.
