Hi Angeline Marie,

Have you thought about looking at it from a different angle? 😊 Many career coaches and psychologists suggest that motivation might be a bit overhyped. This idea popped into my head after reading your post since you seem to handle your work just fine. Here's a book that might interest you: "Motivation Myth: How High Achievers Really Set Themselves Up to Win."

Immediate Start
- 5-Minute Rule: Commit to 5 minutes of study. Stop if you want. Momentum usually keeps you going.
- 3-2-1 Go: Count down out loud, stand up on "Go," and open your book immediately.
- Change Venues: Move to a library or coffee shop. A new environment forces focus.

Lower the Friction
- Pre-Stage Desk: Set up your books and tabs the night before to eliminate morning setup steps.
- Micro-Tasks: Write "Read 2 pages" instead of "Study Biology." Tiny tasks eliminate dread.
- Desk Clearing: Remove everything from sight except the exact assignment you are working on.

Focus Protection
- Phone Out of Sight: Place your phone in another room or zipped bag to stop passive scrolling.
- Pomodoro Timer: Work for 25 minutes, break for 5. Repeat.
- Video Game Tracks: Listen to instrumental gaming music. It is engineered to sustain focus.

Anna’s Answer

Getting started is the toughest part, but once you make it easier, everything else will follow! Begin by thinking about why you need to study. It's not just about getting good grades; consider how the class connects to something you care about. Schedule study time like an appointment. If it's on your calendar and you've set aside the time, you're more likely to stick to it. Focus on small wins, like reading one page or one chapter. As you see progress, it becomes easier to continue! Remember, starting is the key. Don't wait for motivation to begin; it will come once you start.
