Stella’s Answer

Yes! There are many culinary skills courses and programs available for people who want to become chefs or cooks.

If you are just starting, I recommend looking for a program that teaches the fundamentals: knife skills, food safety and sanitation, cooking techniques, sauces, meat and seafood preparation, baking, kitchen organization, and menu planning. A culinary school or community college can provide a structured program, but you can also begin with shorter courses and gain experience by working in a professional kitchen.

From my experience in culinary school and the hospitality industry, one of the most important parts of becoming a chef is hands-on practice. Take every opportunity you can to work with experienced chefs, volunteer at culinary events, and practice different areas of the kitchen.

A culinary program can give you a strong foundation, but becoming a great chef comes from combining education, practice, curiosity, discipline, and real kitchen experience.

Good luck with your culinary journey, Jevgeni! 👨‍🍳

Thank you comment icon Stella do you do have and got any other advice and the suggestion and the recommendation on how to became as a chef and especially in Ireland? Jevgeni
Thank you comment icon Yes, Jevgeni. I don’t know the Irish culinary market well enough to give you specific advice, but I can share what I would recommend. First, decide what kind of chef you want to become—restaurant, hotel, fine dining, pastry, events, private chef, or another specialty. Then research the market in your area of Ireland. Look at job opportunities and what skills and qualifications employers are looking for. My advice is to choose your direction first, then choose the education or training that supports it. Most importantly, get experience in a professional kitchen whenever possible. Hands-on experience will help you discover what you enjoy, develop your skills, and learn from experienced chefs. Good luck, Jevgeni! 👨‍🍳 Stella Giraldella
